We Welcome a Hive of Bees from The Bee Centre

The Bee Centre delivered a hive with a colony of 15,000 honeybees for our new conservation programme. They installed the hive and our staff received training.

Did you Know?

🐝 There are around 270 types of bees in existence

🐝 Worker bees and drone bees live for 6 weeks and Queen bees live for 3-5 years

🐝 Male bees are only born in mating season

🐝 Outside of mating season only females are born. All the bees in our hive are currently female

🐝 A male bee’s genitals explode in mid air when they mate

🐝 It takes 12 bees to make one teaspoon of honey in their life time

Jimmy Doherty is a patron for the British Beekeepers Association and in September 2020 had a show on Channel 4 called ‘Jimmy’s Big Bee Rescue’ which confronted the crisis bees are facing.

Anne Rowberry, Chair of the British Beekeepers Association says:

“We are pleased that Jimmy is adding to the diversity of the pollinators on his farm and joining the beekeeping community. And we look forward to hearing about his honey crop next year.”
