Jimmy Takes the Bears Behind Bars Mission to ITV’s Lorraine

This morning, Jimmy appeared on ITV’s Lorraine to talk about one of the most important missions we’ve ever taken on here at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park: bringing five moon bears home from South Korea.

The bears are among the last survivors of the country’s bear bile farming industry, a practice now banned in South Korea but one that has left around 200 bears trapped in cages with nowhere to go. Local sanctuaries are full. Without intervention, these animals face being put to sleep.

“Watching Diego playing in his reserve in the spring sunshine made me even more determined to give these bears the happiness they deserve,” said Jimmy. “These five bears deserve the same chance.”

Jimmy visited the bears on their farm in South Korea and saw their conditions first hand. Taken from their mothers as cubs, they have spent their entire lives in small metal cages. The campaign, Bears Behind Bars, led by our conservation charity Space for the Wild, aims to raise the funds needed to rescue all five, cover specialist veterinary care, and transport them 5,500 miles to their new forever home here in Suffolk.

It won’t be easy. But then, neither was rescuing Diego.

This is the bears’ only chance. If you can help, please donate to the Bears Behind Bars campaign via Space for the Wild. Every pound brings them closer to feeling grass under their feet for the first time.
