Arctic Wolves

The Lost Lands of the Tundra

Our pack of twelve Arctic Wolves, including a recently born pup called Neville.

These remarkable animals have adapted to one of the harshest environments on Earth, and their resilience and beauty have captivated the imagination of people around the world.

Arctic wolves are smaller in size compared to grey wolves and possess smaller ears, shorter muzzles, and shorter legs to minimize heat loss in the extreme cold of their environment. They typically form packs consisting of approximately seven to ten individuals.

What the Howl?

The Lost Lands of the Tundra

When you hear a wolf howl in the night they are not howling at the moon they are communicating. They call any time of the day, but they are most easily heard in the evening when they are most active.

Wolves’ vocalizations can be separated into four categories: barking, whimpering, growling, and howling. Howling helps by wolves communicate over long distances. A defensive howl is used for protection, to keep the pack together and strangers away. A social howl is used to locate one another, rally together and possibly just for fun.
