The new houses have been lovingly provided to us by HayPigs! – sponsors of the guinea pig village!
We are blown away by the amount of time, effort and detail in each structure.
There’s a Nibbles Nail Bar, a Café, a pub called The Groundhog Inn and even a church!
The houses aren’t just there to look pretty. Guinea pigs are prey animals and need lots of places to hide when they feel scared. If you can’t see one of our piggies when you visit – they’re probably hiding in a house!
In this hot weather they also provide excellent shade for them to keep cool.

Guinea pigs are herbivores, which means they eat only vegetables and plant-based foods. Vitamin C is of utmost importance to guinea pigs, as they are unable to manufacture their own (much like humans). Without enough vitamin C in their diets, guinea pigs can become very ill with scurvy.
Guinea pigs originated in the Andes mountains of South America. They do not exist naturally in the wild, instead are domesticated descendants of a closely related species the Cavia aperea.
Guinea pigs, also called cavies, are a domesticated species of rodent. They were originally native to South America. However, they have been popular for thousands of years as pets and as food.
