Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park, a popular visitor attraction in Suffolk owned by celebrity TV presenter Jimmy Doherty, has just announced a group of capybara pups have been born at their attraction. The South American animals are the world’s largest rodents.

Small, fluffy and utterly adorable the pups are currently the size of a large guinea pig. After a five month gestation period, a female capybara will typically give birth to four or five pups.

Park Director Stevie Sheppard said:

“Capybaras have definitely peaked interest with our visitors and are really popular on social media – people can’t get enough of them! We’re delighted to have welcomed this group of pups and with our four females, we will hopefully have more born soon.”

Capybara pups aren’t effective swimmers at first, so they stay on land hiding in bushy cover. It won’t be long though until they get in the water with their Mum as these semi-aquatic animals are adapted for life underwater with features such as webbed feet.

The wildlife park started housing capybaras in 2018 when they took on three from Tropical Wings Zoo when they closed down. They are a popular animal at the park and attraction has took off recently as they were named the best loved animal due to their social media success appearing in “I pull up” memes.

Jimmy’s Farm is celebrating the Coronation this weekend by hosting a Royal Rare Breeds Weekend. There will be Rare Breed pig tours, a live stream of the coronation and of course, the chance to see these adorable pups.
