ABOUT THE Muscovy Duck
The Muscovy duck, originally hailing from Central and South America, is a remarkable large-sized waterfowl. While native to tropical regions, these ducks have shown impressive adaptability to cooler habitats, including areas where their preferred food source, mosquitoes, may be less prevalent, such as in Suffolk.
One distinctive feature of the male Muscovy duck is the presence of fleshy lumps covering its face, lending it a unique and somewhat unconventional appearance. Additionally, their vocalizations are characterized by a low and breathy call, adding to their distinctive charm.
Among the Muscovy ducks, there exists a record-breaking individual from an Australian breed. This male duck holds the title for the heaviest Muscovy duck on record, weighing an astonishing nearly 22 pounds (10 kilograms). Such impressive size showcases the natural diversity and variation within this species.
