ABOUT THE Grant’s Zebra
Grant’s Zebra a sub species of Plains Zebra and are actually the smallest one. They are typically found roaming the plains in central and southern Africa preferring to live in the savanna woodlands and grasslands.
They only eat plants, herbivorous, with their diet almost entirely made up of grasses although they also eat leaves, bark, shrubs and other plant material.
Plains Zebras are less endangered than the other species (mountain and Grevy’s zebra) but populations have been reducing significantly in numbers due to the loss of habitats to farming and some hunting of them.
About our Zebra
We are delighted to have 3 Grant’s Zebra! The first to join us were Zebedee and Zoom, boys who were just over 1 year old and were proving to be very mischievous from the moment they arrived!
At the end of May we welcomed the third and final Zebra to our male herd, Thunder! Thunder has joined us from Longleat Safari Park.
Did you know
When zebras are born they are brown and white. The brown markings darken with age.
Each zebras stripes are unique just like a human’s fingerprints.
Zebra foals can stand up almost immediately after they are born to help them escape predators.
