ABOUT THE Giant Anteater
Giant anteaters possess a unique adaptation, as they lack teeth but make up for it with an incredibly long, sticky tongue that reaches up to 30cm in length. This specialised tongue allows them to efficiently catch ants and termites, their primary source of food.
Fascinatingly, female anteaters carry their young on their backs until the baby is nearly half the size of the mother. This nurturing behavior ensures the safety and protection of the offspring.
Equipped with sharp claws on their front feet, giant anteaters utilize them for self-defence. In fact, they have been known to successfully fend off their main predators, including formidable big cats like jaguars and cougars!
