Students create new YouTube series with Jimmy Doherty
A group of students from Suffolk New College have teamed up Jimmy Doherty to help him create a mini-series for our YouTube channel.
Learners have been working on this project for the last few months, creating a selection of videos that will give fresh insights into life here at the farm.
The group from the College have been working closely with Jimmy and have put the shows together using new studios and equipment that are housed in a new 2.4m college Tech Campus that was opened last month in Ipswich.
On the collaboration, Jimmy said:
“I have a long history with the college going back almost 20 years.
“I’m very excited that students who study on courses at the Tech Campus have supported my plans to launch a new YouTube series.
“I have a real passion for education, the county and the College, so this partnership is perfect on many levels. I’d like to thank the staff and students and I can’t wait to see how this project develops.”
Media lecturer at the College, Eli Turay explains how this came about. He said:
“It has been a significant real-world opportunity for the students. Jimmy is hands-on and was keen to be a facilitator and the client. Some of the students became leaders throughout the project.”
One of the students to work on this project is 17 year old Dominic Stuart from Ipswich. The level three media student, said:
“We created three episodes and in the final one we filmed, we thought it would be a good idea for someone to become a famer for the day. I was put forward, we went round the farm and I was assigned tasks. I’ve definitely got a new found respect for farmers.
“It’s been useful working on this – very beneficial – for this to be on our CV is a great stepping point into the future. It’s been really cool,” he added.
18 year old Jose Santos from Ipswich is also on a level three media course, said:
“I was a cameraman and worked on the editing. Getting a chance to work with this company is great for my future. “
Head of marketing at the College, Craig Shimmon, said,
“Jimmy has worked with the College since 2004 on a number of projects.
“Most recently, T Level students have drawn up plans to build a new area for some of his rare breed pigs. The farm at our Suffolk Rural campus has been looking after a number of his animals and now our media team are delighted to be working with him on the YouTube launch.
“Having projects like this can only help our students when they transition from education into the workplace – so we are very thankful for this opportunity.”
The first episode has launched today! (12th May 2022)
