Secondary School visits & trips

A trip to Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park for Keystage 3 (KS3) and Keystage 4 (KS4) can develop parts of the curriculum including science, business studies, literacy, food technology and art. It can help put into context what is learnt in the classroom in an enjoyable, stimulating and practical “hands on” way.

Down on The Farm

A guided tour of the Working Farm where the students can meet, feed and learn about our rare breed pigs, cattle and sheep.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Tour our vegetable gardens and get a feel for where our food comes from. Everything from rhubarb to garlic is grown by our wonderful gardener Sarah. Learn about the fruit and herbs grown on the Farm and used in our kitchens.

On Safari

A guided tour of the Wildlife Park where students will encounter animals from around the world.  Meerkats to rhea, wallabies to crocodiles. The students will also have the opportunity to feed and touch some of the animals they meet such as guinea pigs, donkeys and goats.

Rockin’ Reptiles!

Experience the heat of the jungle, see our free flying birds, come face to face with our crocodiles and see other reptiles from around the world. Maybe you will be lucky enough to stroke a snake or tickle a tortoise!

Bugs Galore

Visit our tropical butterfly house (March to October) and discover the lifecycle of butterflies, stick insects and snails.  Or head into the woods to hunt for mini beasts.

Pond Life

See for yourself what lies beneath the water in the ponds at Jimmy’s Farm. Pond dipping from exclusive and safe platforms. Learn about the lifecycle and habitats of underwater pond creatures. Or maybe you would like to try and catch a fish with Dolly (available seasonally).

For risk assessments and more detailed information, please see “Plan your day”.

If You Go into The Woods Today…

Spend time in our woodland letting the student’s imagination go wild.  They can build dens or spaceships or castles or submarines. Create art work from the natural materials they can find lying around, a 3-D mud face, a woven twig sculpture or a picture out of leaves. A perfect add on to “Woodland Wanderings”.

Woodland Wanderings

Adventure along our Timewalk Trail to discover animals that may have once lived in the woods. Explore the woodland and learn to identify trees using bark and leaf rubbings and seed collections. A perfect add on to “If you go down to the woods today…”.

Sizzling Sausages

Give us a hand to make some sausages. Each student has the opportunity to participate in a sausage making demonstration.

Learn what goes into a sausage, and find out why Jimmy’s Farm sausages are different, followed by tasting different types made and cooked at the farm.

Why not sample a Jimmy’s Farm sausage and book a Meal Deal for £6.00 per person. Includes bread bun, Jimmy’s Farm sausage, chips, sauces and squash. We will endeavor to cater for all dietary requirements.

You too can Cook!

We can tailor a program to your needs. It could include – a tour of the Working Farm to see the live animals, an introduction to vegetables and plants grown and sold on the Farm and used in the restaurant. Have a go at sausage making and see the different raw meats and products on sale in the butchery. Why not include a talk from one of our chefs about catering as a career? Please discuss this when making your booking.

Discover the mystery of fire.  Learn about the science behind fire and then put what you have learnt into practice by lighting your own small fire.  Why not enjoy a hot lunch and have sausages cooked on an open fire to add to the experience.

For risk assessments and more detailed information, please see “Plan your day”.

Jimmy’s Farm as a Business

Learn how and why Jimmy and Michaela set up the Farm in 2002 and the way it has evolved since that time. Then tour the Farm to explore the current Farm finances, running costs, ethics, diversification, location and media influence.
