Pre-school, Nursery & EYFS visits
We can make your pre-school trip to suit our younger visitors. A flexible approach, supervised, partly supervised or the whole day to yourselves, the choice is yours!
Down on The Farm
A guided tour of the Working Farm where the children can meet and feed our rare breed pigs, cattle and sheep.
How Does Your Garden Grow?
Tour our vegetable gardens and get a feel for where our food comes from. Everything from rhubarb to garlic is grown by our wonderful gardener Sarah. Learn about the fruit and herbs grown on the farm and used in our kitchens. Use your senses to taste, feel and smell.
A guided tour of the Wildlife Park where children will encounter animals from around the world. Meerkats to rhea, wallabies to crocodiles. The children will also have the opportunity to feed and touch some of the animals they meet. Pet and feed animals such as guinea pigs, donkeys and goats.
Experience the heat of the jungle, see our free flying birds, come face to face with our crocodiles and see other reptiles from around the world. Maybe you will be lucky enough to stroke a snake or tickle a tortoise.
Visit our tropical butterfly house (March to October) and discover the lifecycle of the butterfly, stick insects and snails. Or head into the woods to hunt for mini beasts.
See for yourself what lies beneath the water in the ponds at Jimmy’s Farm. Pond dipping from exclusive and safe platforms. Learn about the lifecycle and habitats of underwater pond creatures. Or maybe you would like to try and catch a fish with Dolly? (available seasonally).
For risk assessments and more detailed information, please see “plan your day”.
If You Go into The Woods Today…
Spend time in our woodland letting the children’s imagination go wild. They can build dens or spaceships or castles or submarines. Create art work from the natural materials they can find lying around, a 3-D mud face, a woven twig sculpture, fairy houses or a picture out of leaves
Once Upon A Time
An opportunity to link traditional tales to animals on the Farm – Three Little Pigs, Three Billy Goats Gruff or go into the woods for activities linked to The Gruffalo, Goldilocks and the Three Bears or Little Red Riding Hood.
Most of our pre-school visits are unsupervised but if you would like input from our staff why not select one or two workshop sessions or activities from the supervised group trips? If on the other hand you would like a supervised visit, we can create a fun programme linked to your particular theme.
Most schools tend to arrive around 10am.
On arrival the group leader should make their own way to the Farm & Wildlife Park hut, present proof of payment invoice or pay and get instruction concerning covered space to use as a base for the day. The hut staff will provide you with the padlock codes.
Explore and Learn
Remember to check the daily timetable on the Farm & Wildlife Park for times of all keeper talks and animal feeds. Enjoy your day exploring the Farm and Wildlife Park. Go on safari with the wallabies, experience the heat of the butterfly house or burn off energy den building or on the bouncy pillow.
Animal feed is available to buy from the Farm and Wildlife Park hut.
We know that you want your school visit to be a success. That’s why we offer pre-visits to teachers so that you can get a feel for the Farm and plan your day in advance. A Pre-Visit voucher will be sent to you with confirmation of your booking.
